New to the labyrinth?

Now is a good time to learn about labyrinths and our website is a good place to start.

Especially necessary in these times, labyrinths restore a sense of balance to body, mind and spirit.

If you have access to a labyrinth where you can walk at a safe distance from others, you can begin with these basic guidelines.

At the entrance, take a few letting go breaths and release any thoughts or worries. You could form an intention and carry that with you as you walk.

As you follow the path, be present and aware of your breath with each step you take. When you reach the centre, take time to notice the insights you’ve received along the way, perhaps say a prayer.

Then when you feel ready, return along the same path.

Once completed, take time to notice the way your body feels and any expanded understanding.

Many people find that tracing a labyrinth with their fingers compares with their experience of walking a labyrinth.

During this pandemic, finger labyrinths are “at hand”. On this website, in the menu under Resources are a printable Classical labyrinth with seven circuits and an 11-circuit labyrinth. The latter is the pattern of Chartres Cathedral France, Grace Cathedral San Francisco and the Toronto Public Labyrinth at Trinity Square Park.

Or, you can draw your own 7- circuit labyrinth using the step-by-step diagram also found under Resources.

If you like, customize your finger labyrinth with drawings or quotations around the border. With lamination, the labyrinth becomes washable and portable, ideal for travel or as a gift for a hospital patient.
